AAPPL (Seal of Biliteracy)
South Carolina students are eligible for the South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy based on two qualifications that must be submitted during junior and / or senior year:
- Proficiency in a language other than English demonstrated by passing the AAPPL test. This qualification is required for all students regardless of their first/heritage language. Testing for qualification 1 must happen during the students junior and / or senior year. The AAPPL test assesses a student's proficiency in reading, listening, writing, and speaking another language such as Spanish, Chinese, or French.
- Proficiency in English. This is required for all students regardless of their first /heritage language. This is demonstrated by either earning a cumulative 3.0 GPA in all English classes through 11th grade or by passing ACCESS testing.
Earning this award gives students an opportunity to display their skills to universities and employers. Colleges who are accepting the Seal of Biliteracy for course credit or course placement include Coastal Carolina University and North Greenville University.
