Ms. Marie Smith

Hello, my name is Marie Smith and i am currently teaching Spanish 1 at Beaufort High School. I have taught in Beaufort County School District for a total of seven years. I spent five of those years teaching Spanish at Bluffton High School before transitioning to Beaufort High in 2016. I am a highly qualified teacher in the areas of Spanish grades K-12 and English grades 6-12.

In 2010, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and English Teaching from Eastern Michigan University. In 2014, I earned a Master of Arts degree in Foreign Language Teaching from Michigan State University. Professionally, I have presented at the Michigan World Language Association Annual State Conference. Most recently in Beaufort County, I have worked on the World Language Curriculum Writing Team designing units to be taught in language courses. I have also presented professional development sessions for our World Language colleagues at Best Practices Day.

I grew up in southeast Michigan, specifically in the Metro Detroit area. While in college, I studied abroad in Spain and lived in a small town outside of Madrid with a host family. I bring may real items and pictures from my trip into the classroom as a way of connecting our lessons to the real world and expanding our students' world view.
