The J-100 AFJROTC Character-in-Leadership Scholarship (J-100) will provide 100 cadets a full four-year ROTC college scholarship, including room and board, at select Minority Serving Institutions (MSI), Historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI). This scholarship was established by former U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff (CSAF) General David L. Goldfein.
Students must meet both academic and physical fitness standards. The program utilizes an established ROTC scholarship application process with additional JROTC sections. Cadets who advance in the application process will ultimately meet a Leadership Evaluation Board (LEB), a panel interview to determine the final scholarship awards. Selected cadets choose a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) college or university on an approved list. There are no specific technical degree requirements, but up to 25% of cadets may access into technical degrees
TIMELINE: This year the nomination window will open January 11 or 18, depending on programing requirements, with the LEB taking place the last week of February. Instructors and potential nominees should immediately review the 2021 approved university list and consider applying prior to the application deadline. This is critical, as any ROTC scholarship winners must be accepted into their school of choice.
The J-100 is for graduating high school seniors where units may nominate 1 to 3 cadets dependent upon unit size.
1-150 Active Cadets = 1 nomination
151-300 Active Cadets = 2 nominations
301 or more Active Cadets = 3 nominations
HQ AFJROTC is thrilled to partner with Air University, AFROTC, and the office of the Chief of Staff on this life-changing program. The J-100 realizes some specific demands of the Air Force while simultaneously fulfilling the educational aspirations of 100 exceptional young men and women a year. This scholarship is intended for those who would benefit the most from this extraordinary opportunity. More information is forthcoming.
