Hello My Name Is...

Julie McKay

McKay

Hailing from Columbia, SC before spending over 20 years in the Charleston area, I've been teaching Spanish/French in middle and high schools since graduating from USC (GO GAMECOCKS) in 1991. As a highly qualified teacher, I moved to Beaufort in 2011 and spent the first 3 years teaching at WBECHS where I taught Spanish I-IV and was able to start the French program which grew to French II before I transferred to Beaufort High School.  This year I teach all Spanish I classes in the School of Arts, Communication & Technology.  I look forward to collaborating with more World Language teachers so I may infuse new concepts and practices into my classroom.  I LOVE to travel and have visited several Spanish-speaking countries during my time abroad:  Spain, Mexico (studied and lived with a family there for a summer), Costa Rica, and Honduras.  I also enjoy snow skiing and try to venture out west each season for a week on the slopes.  On a daily basis, you'll see me walking/running throughout Beaufort--usually well over an hour a day outdoors...love the sun and heat!!!!  I also practice yoga and volunteer with several organizations that incorporates my little therapy dog Emma (my only child).
